I think that’s basic tone without the protagonist understanding it.
The protagonist was NEVER going to be with Kara. It was just an unrealistic fantasy that he was ever going to lose his virginity to her. The problem is that the protagonist still doesn’t really want to admit that the kiss was MEANT to manipulative.
Wonder how he would feel if he got to make out with her, but with Kara's boyfriend watching
